Blown out bunion deformity associated with large orthopedic screws.

November 23, 2025

At the Comprehensive Foot and Ankle Institute, we perform minimal incision surgery for bunions, hammertoes, midfoot surgery, and rear foot surgery as well as ankle surgery. We do most of our procedures using the real minimal incision type procedures. This means we do not use large orthopedic screws or plates. It is now well-documented that the minimal incision surgery that many surgeons that are doing with large orthopedic screws result in blown out bunions. This will result in detrimental effects to patients. We specialize in the real minimal incision surgery for foot and ankle procedures. We use regenerative medical therapy to help with the bone healing as well. Below you will see an example of blown out bunion surgeries done by the large orthopedic screws.
